What’s one of the greatest free resources you have in your neighborhood? You neighbors. They may be your watchdogs for your home when you’re away on vacation or at work. You wouldn’t want to start off on the wrong foot. Plus when your kids lose their toys and balls over the fence every weekend, you want to be sure they’ll get them back in working condition without fear. So here are a few ways you can introduce yourself and make friends with your neighbors.
- After you move in and get settled bring over some baked goods or simply introduce yourself and your family or roommates. Or if you’re the established neighbor bring over some coupons to local restaurants and stores as an introduction. You might even invite the family to join the school carpool.
- Always invite the neighbors to your annual parties or backyard BBQs. This is a great way to get to know everyone in an informal and fun environment.
- Offer to take in the mail and watch over your neighbor’s home when they’re away on vacation.
- Try to avoid gossip but don’t try to be everyone’s friend. Chances are if it’s the right neighborhood for you, you’ll fit in just fine. But there’s always that one person that just can’t seem to get along with anyone. Make an attempt to introduce yourself and be friendly, but if it’s just not working then at least you tried!
